Naked Lunch
Once We, Zarathustra the Cat, managed to scandalize society when he sat for Edouard Manet’s masterpiece “Luncheon on the Grass” and licked you know what. The great painter told Us “A lady in the background will catch you a shrimp if you look straight at me!”
“A shrimp?” – We thought and stopped licking – “Oh, no, he is kidding, what shrimps in the forest river? All shrimps from the basket are over… Better We clean Ourselves!”
This moment of Our profound revelation was depicted by the French genius.
Art critics of the time got extremely angry: “What? You painted a cat in a serious piece! And moreover, it was a cat licking his balls! You should paint at least a naked babe, like a regular painter! Or, much better, just paint another guy in the suit!”. Manet chose to draw a naked lady and the result you can see in the collection of Musee d’Orsay:
But the scandal happened anyway: art critics thought that the woman is too naked, in contrast with two properly clothed guys. Of course, she was, you should remember what she substituted!
Thus speaks Zarathustra the Cat
