R-E-S-P-E-C-T
In rare moments of Arrt history we see past and future collide (yes they do, and We are always there).
As a case in point, here is the original version of one of the paintings in Paolo Veronese’s famous series entitled The Four Allegories of Love. It’s called “Respect”. That’s right, Respect as in R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Previously we made a lot of efforts to restore the African roots of Paolo Veronese’s masterpiece, and now finally goes the amazing discovery as a result:
In the painting, you see Snoop Dogg (a timeless icon if there ever was one of Respect as in R-E-S-P-E-C-T), whose appearance on the hip-hop stage Veronese foresaw in this picture from 1575.
Then you see a very respectable classic Cat, and, finally, a naked sleeping lady.
Everybody is stylish, and everybody has Respect for each other.
Perhaps you would like to know why one cannot find this beguiling version of the painting at Britain’s National Gallery and can instead see only a later remake?
This is because when Veronese presented the original version of the painting in 1575, the art establishment guys told the artist: “A cute Cat in an official painting? Respect for a naked babe? An African man? Hasta la vista, baby!”
“I beg your pardon. I’ll fix it immediately,” whispered Veronese, trembling. You know what time it was.
Now, finally, We restore the truth.
Thus speaks Zarathustra the Cat!
2024 UPD: Even more respect!
It appeared that the right title of the painting is “Respect to Cats and Dogs…and Goats”, just because Snoop Dogg is G.O.A.T – greatest of all times!
That is the meaning of the chain on his chest:
But should the naked lady be painted in blue? Paolo Veronese is silent about this…
Thus speaks Zarathustra the Cat!
