One can find the reason for her sadness in the mirror reflection behind her back: a mustached gentleman is asking her to give him definitely not a tangerine. Having in mind this scandalous fact, Manet painted another canvas and placed an honest, brave orange Cat instead of the poor girl. We were honored to be a model for this painting.
